It’s fun to stay at the Y-M-C-A

We’re excited to announce that the Windermere Foundation has partnered with the YMCA to create our first regional program, called Windermere Kids at the Y. The program is designed to meet the demand for affordable child care and after-school enrichment programs for low-income families.  

Windermere Kids at the Y launches with 13 participating YMCA sites in Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.  Each YMCA site is pairing with a local Windermere office, or group of offices.  From these sites, agents will volunteer their time and resources in support of the program that keeps kids leaning and having fun -- well after their school day ends.

The local Windermere offices in the Las Vegas Valley are partnering with the YMCA of Southern Nevada.  Agents from these local offices are donating their time to a local at-risk elementary school, once a month, on Windermere Wednesdays! to work with children from low-income families.  They read to the children, assist them with their homework, introduce them to new and exciting careers and best of all, play with them.  This was begun in October, 2006 to coinside with the Windermere Kids at the Y program.

The YMCA ia a proven leader when it comes to serving the needs of kids. According to the After-School Allliance, every dollar invested in out-of-school programs saves more than $3, as children are more likely to stay in school and advance to the next grade, and less likely to get into trouble.  This year alone the Windermere Kids at the Y program will help ensure success for hundreds of kids from low-income families.  The impact will be significant -- we'll be sure to keep you informed of all the great accomplishments made possible by this new and exciting program.
